Fixed Transcoder / Videos Unavailable

After receiving several bug reports, I discovered that our transcoding system was down. I restarted all of the services this morning, so transcoding should be working again. Please continue to report any bugs that are encountered. Even though we cannot respond to many of them (due to the mass volume), all feedback is reviewed and often acted upon.

I would also like to discuss two other topics which we have been receiving a lot of comments about.

1) Videos unavailable after requesting a transcode:

Unfortunately we often show listings of videos that have been removed from upstream. This is because after we find videos upstream and insert them into our search engine, it is not until a transcode is requested that we can find out if the video has been removed and flag it in our database. We are currently working on a system to proactively look for removed videos and remove them from our search engine, but that is still in the works.

2) Addition of RedTube and other upstream video sites:

Another ongoing project we have been working on is a new transcoding system that is more accurate and generic. The generic nature of this new queuing system will allow us to easily and quickly roll out new sites, since the system will no longer be site specific to particular video sites. This is being tested in our development environment, and should be rolled out soon.

  29. Ive been a user of tinytube for some time now. But i am sick and tired of videos not working and crappy video search results. Im gonna use other sites for me mobile video needs from now on. Tinytube SUCKS!

  45. I just found out about this site today and really glad it exists. I’m not going to lie I use it for xtube on my iPhone because well I don’t have a computer anymore at home and I like pr0n (and other fetish videos).

    I have noticed that many of the videos are strangely unavailable but Jesus I can’t believe the number of complaints! From the looks of the comments it looks like most of you people also use this service for pr0n, and guess what… Despite not being able to see some of the videos you WILL survive!

    Stop complaining. The makers of this service are very generous considering the small amount of ads, and as far as I know this is the only site that will work with as many sites as it does. Do you have any idea how much work it takes not just to code the site but to run the servers that transcode the video? Nothing on their infrastructure is free or cheap, and I can’t believe they are providing this for free, but I would like it to stay free so why don’t you offer your help instead of complaining.
